Surgeries: Chronic Pancreatitis: The Team
The Digestive Disease Center has a well-established team of physicians, nurses, and health care providers dedicated to long-term care of patients with chronic pancreatitis. Dr. Peter Cotton established the Digestive Disease Center in 1995 and brought together a group of gastroenterologists, surgeons, and radiologists who have special interests in dealing with disorders of the pancreas. The majority of patients are managed with medical, endoscopic, and non-operative therapies but when these treatments are ineffective, patients are referred for surgical management.
MUSC has had a longstanding tradition in surgical management of chronic pancreatitis that was developed by Dr. Marion Anderson, a former Department Chairman and highly respected national leader in the operative treatment of chronic pancreatitis. Dr. David Adams began working with Dr. Anderson in 1986 and has continued the tradition established by Dr. Anderson in specialized surgical treatment of chronic pancreatitis. Dr. Katherine Morgan, also with a special interest in pancreatitis, has been a member of the pancreas surgery team since 2003.
