Clinical Research: Introduction
The DDC has a unique comprehensive clinical trials and research program based on the collaboration of specialists from a variety of disciplines whose focus is primarily on digestive diseases. For example, DDC specialists include a variety of backgrounds including gastro-enterology, hepatology, oncology, radiology, nutrition and pathology.
The DDC is normally involved in approximately 30-40 clinical research studies at any given time. The spectrum of research spans from pancreatico-biliary to various types of gastrointestinal (GI) cancers to Motility to general GI diseases such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), as well as nutrition-related issues. Our research projects focus on new medical treatments as well as advances in technology such as the development of new or improved GI instruments to better identify and treat digestive diseases.
DDC Research efforts are managed by the Digestive Disease Research Center which consists of a grants manager, program manager, clinical research nurses and study coordinators. DDC Research is further supported by the DDC/GI clinic, endoscopy staff and physicians. Research practice at the DDC is linked heavily to the process of daily routine patient care since the mission of our research is not only to improve the treatment of diseases but also to improve overall patient care.
