About Us

Our Facilities: Clinical

In February of 2008, the next phase occurs in the evolution of the Digestive Disease Center. With the creation of the Digestive Disease Center Service Line, and the completion of a brand new state-of-the-art facility for patient care, we can proudly say that our original vision of putting the patient first, and bringing together a multidisciplinary team to help them, has been a success, and is now a model that all others seek to emulate.

After a decade of phenomenal growth and activity, we embark upon the next phase of our journey with new leadership. Dr. Mark H. DeLegge believes that the MUSC Digestive Disease Center can lead the world in patient care. Exploring all avenues of digestive health, Dr. DeLegge has championed a Digestive Disease Research Center, devoted exclusively to the study of digestive disorders. He has committed the DDC to renew and expand the team concept toward patient care. "We need to put the patient at the center of all our efforts, and focus every discipline on that patient," says Dr. DeLegge. "The team concept must be based on excellence in health care, respect for our patients, and accountability for our plan of care. Every patient is different, and the team must approach each patient with that in mind. The leadership of Dr. Mark Payne over the GI division and Dr. David Adams over the GI surgery division has been paramount in achieving our current goals and in reaching for our new goals."

In keeping with this philosophy, The Ashley River Tower has been designed for you. The primary emphasis has been on making the hospital convenient for patients and their families. This state-of-the-art building features 156 beds, including an intensive care unit, operating rooms, laboratories, interventional radiology and endoscopy suites, and a specialized chest pain center. The hospital is designed to accommodate the most modern medical equipment available, and to offer patients and their families the highest quality of care in a setting that rivals the comfort and style of a fine hotel. Parking is adjacent to the facility, which offers many areas for family members to relax while waiting. You may bring your laptop and work while you are there. Wireless internet is available. Shopping and dining areas are located in the hospital. The design of the Ashley River Tower has created many areas for quiet reflection. We think you will enjoy your time with us.
