Medical University of South Carolina's
Digestive Disease Research Center

Dr. Joseph Romagnuolo
A Word from the Director of Clinical Research
Welcome! The MUSC Digestive Disease Center research program provides the research infrastructure for methodologically and ethically sound clinical, translational, and novel technology research for GI Medicine and GI Surgery, with seasoned clinical research faculty, credentialed clinical research coordinators and experienced administrators making up the backbone of our Center.
We're proudly compliant with the international scientific and ethical quality standard known as "Good Clinical Practice." Our internationally recognized clinical, endoscopic and surgical expertise and large patient volume (particularly biliary/pancreatic and bariatric diseases), along with a unique practice of complex cases, leaves us well-poised to run clinical trials efficiently, with several multi-centered federally funded studies
underway – for example, from the National Institutes
of Health (NIH) and the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD).
Our basic science and biomedical research laboratories (including state-of-the-art facilities to study novel endoscopic and surgical experimental techniques and devices), as well as collaborations with Biometry, Psychiatry, Pathology, Bioengineering and
Hollings Cancer Center, greatly expand our research tools.
We hope that this new website design will help patients and industry better navigate through the highlights of our group and our extensive list of ongoing research studies. Please let us know how we can improve our site to allow you to efficiently find out the information you need about our group, to better serve your needs. Please do not hesitate to contact Kyle Orrell or myself with any questions that you have.

Meet the DDC Research Program Manager

Kyle Orrell
It is a rare thing indeed to be part of an organization that has
so much to offer the medical, clinical, and overall healthcare
fields with such a dedicated focus for research. With the tools
available both professionally and technically, we are able to offer
patients the newest and most exciting treatments in the digestive
disease arena.
Consisting of a staff of five Association of Clinical Research
Professional certified clinical coordinators, two Registered Nurses,
a Nurse Practitioner, and over 11 experienced Faculty Principal
Investigators, Dr. Romagnuolo and myself feel that the MUSC
Digestive Disease Research Center offers not only superior research
services, but also works on answering some of the most difficult
questions in the field of digestive disease. It is a privilege to be
part of such an experienced, devoted, and passionate center for
research, and I welcome your call to discuss how we may best serve
you and or your organizational needs.
