Amanda Budak joined the Digestive Disease Center as the Bariatric Surgery Program Manager in August 2005. She has 16 years of nursing experience across a variety of settings. She began her career in the STICU at MUSC and moved from there to become a Research Nurse at Hollings Cancer Center. After completing graduate school with a Masters in Nursing Administration, she became the program director for a large community cancer program and developed the Clinical Research Program Office for that organization. This experience introduced her to an opportunity to work with a healthcare architecture firms consulting division to provide operational and strategic consulting services. She returned to MUSC in 2003 as the Outcomes Manager for Cardiovascular and GI Surgery services. Her role with the Digestive Disease Center now includes managing the bariatric surgery program and the islet cell transplant program. In addition to that, she provides administrative oversight for the Digestive Disease Research Center.
Kyle began his medical career in the United States Navy over 25 years ago, ending his active duty service in the Gulf War in 1991. In 1992, he entered the clinical research field in Austin, Texas working for one of the largest clinical research organizations in the United States. Kyle received his degree from Southwest Texas State University in Healthcare Administration. He has experience in every phase of the FDA approval process as a Clinical Research Associate. Along with his monitoring background in cardiac, analgesic, and infectious disease pharmaceutical development, Kyle has served as the Research Director for a large gastrointestinal practice before coming to the Digestive Disease Center at MUSC.
